Congratulations to my former doctoral student Jonathan Rimdolmsom Kabre for publishing his spectacular thesis on the role of private counsel in international disputes involving States!

This doctoral thesis defended at the Law School of the University of Lausanne under the supervision of Professor Andreas R. Ziegler examines the work of lawyers and counsels in international litigation and is structured around two axes. The first axis aims at a triple objective of defining these lawyers in international litigation, clarifying the legal framework within which their action takes place and identifying the different roles they can play. In the second axis, the analysis focuses on the legitimacy of these private lawyers as agents of litigating States. In particular, questions relating to their representativeness, their accountability and the costs of their action are analyzed.
